Word Jinx Privacy Policy

Version privacy-2026-10-18.1.

Effective when this updated beta is provided. Applies to the adult (18+) beta operated by Astra Codeworks LLC, California, United States.

Information we use

Online play requires an internet connection. We use a randomly assigned guest account identifier, your chosen player name and tag, authentication information, your saved deck and progression, and match commands to operate the game. Your player name and public gameplay are visible to other participants. Choose a nickname rather than personal information. You do not need to provide an email address for guest play.

Career statistics and online match results

We automatically associate online match results and career statistics with your guest account. Career statistics count completed, standard public matches with two to four human players, no bots and no developer-tool effects. Private rooms, matches with bots, developer/test matches and incomplete matches do not add to career statistics. Ineligible or incomplete online matches can still produce a short-lived account-linked result record containing information such as the match identifier, completion time, duration, placement, player count and completion reason for the result screen.

Career records include matches, wins, placements, scores, word counts and lengths, submission timing and accepted timestamps, turns, timeouts, lives lost, disconnects/reconnects, and spell activity such as casts accepted, executed, canceled or triggered. Recent and best-match records include match identifiers, completion times, player counts, placement, duration, completion reason and rules identifiers. Your longest, highest-scoring and fastest-word records include the word itself and related match and timing information. We also keep the set of accepted words you have played to calculate unique-word statistics. Those sets use identifiers that can be decoded back into words; they are not anonymous word history.

This collection is separate from optional reports and is used to calculate and display your statistics and results, prevent duplicate updates, and repair incomplete processing. The in-game career views show your own records to you; they are not a public career directory. There is no separate career-collection toggle. You can avoid career accumulation by not playing eligible matches, or request account deletion as described below. Statistics begin when this system is enabled; earlier results are not reconstructed as though they had been collected.

For this beta, the Daily chest bar and Jinx Pass animate stars from eligible online results within the current app session. That presentation progress resets when the app restarts. Cosmetic chest reveals and store displays do not grant purchased or saved inventory rewards in this version.

Technical evidence and reports

We keep technical match evidence, including match identifiers, participant identifiers, command outcomes and timing, to investigate faults and player reports. Ordinary technical match diagnostics do not contain attempted-word text; the separate career word records described above do retain accepted words. The app keeps bounded local history of your own submitted attempts so you can report a word problem.

When you choose to send any in-game report, we receive its category, comment, account and match context, selected evidence (such as a word, player reference or spell), and available last-match and recent-app diagnostics. General Diagnostics uses the same diagnostic collection. Technical diagnostics include app/build and Unity versions, event timing, match and command identifiers, connection events, frame timing, exception counts and available project-method names. Technical logs exclude gameplay word text, exception messages and file paths; words you deliberately select or describe in a report can be included. Reports do not automatically include screenshots, recordings or native crash dumps. Available previous-session evidence is labelled separately. Incomplete or missing capture is identified rather than presented as a complete record.

The app keeps recent diagnostic evidence locally, including during startup before agreement, to diagnose launch problems. This is not an automatic upload. The last-match report record is replaced when the next gameplay match starts; queued reports keep their frozen attachments. Local report evidence and pending reports have a 72-hour retention window. You decide whether to send a report.

The app stores an acceptance receipt on this installation, containing the accepted terms and privacy versions and document hashes, your affirmative age/terms/privacy selections, app identifier/version, and the device-reported time of acceptance. It is used to remember your choice and request acceptance again when the documents change. The receipt is first saved locally. Once your account is created or recovered and connectivity allows, the app sends it to our server, which associates it with your authenticated account identifier and records a server receipt time. The client-reported acceptance time is not independently verified. We retain each accepted document version while your account exists. After account deletion we retain only minimal agreement evidence: an opaque account reference, document versions and hashes, affirmative acceptance and age declarations, acceptance and server-receipt times, and environment. This is kept to establish and defend the agreement, scheduled to expire four years after deletion is initiated. Automatic expiry is not instantaneous; automatic recovery can retain earlier copies for up to 35 additional days, while separately retained backups can last longer as explained under Retention; deletion and expiry must be reapplied on restore. We do not retain your name, public tag, gameplay or diagnostics in this agreement record. The retention period is subject to review and applicable legal rights. Local receipts remain until app data is removed or a newer acceptance replaces them. A retry may delay server recording; a local acceptance does not by itself prove who used the phone. No birth date or identity document is collected by this screen.

If you email support, we receive your sending address and the information you provide. Do not include passwords, sign-in codes or account secrets.

Why we use it and who processes it

We use this information to provide gameplay and account services, save progress, respond to support requests, investigate technical problems and abuse, and protect the service. We do not sell this information or use it for cross-company advertising targeting.

AWS hosts the game services and databases in the United States. The game is built with Unity. Technical information used for app diagnostics includes the app and Unity versions and the events described above. Optional analytics, advertising and cloud diagnostic services are disabled in the beta's project configuration. Apple operates TestFlight and may process beta feedback and crash diagnostics under its own policies. Information you choose to send through email is also handled by the email services used to deliver and receive it.

Our website is hosted by Squarespace, which processes technical information to deliver and secure its website service. Any information you choose to submit through a website contact form is used to respond to your request. The game's in-app report flow and this website's contact forms are separate.

Access is limited to people and service providers who need the information for these purposes. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to address a security incident or protect legal rights.

We require service providers processing information on our behalf to use it only for the services they provide to us and to give it protection at least equivalent to the protections described in this policy. Independently operated platforms, including Apple's TestFlight service, also explain their practices in their own privacy policies.

Retention

  • Account, profile and save-history records remain while your account exists, unless you request deletion.
  • Account-level career totals, word records, accepted-word sets, recent/best-match summaries and records preventing duplicate statistic updates remain until replaced or removed through account deletion. These account-level records are separate from the detailed match records below.
  • Detailed eligible career match records are scheduled for removal 90 days after their statistics processing is settled. Result-only records are scheduled for removal after seven days. Unfinished or quarantined processing records may remain longer while processing is completed or repaired. Minimal integrity records may remain after personal details are removed.
  • Detailed in-game report bodies and attached diagnostics expire after 30 days. Compact report history remains until the reporting account is deleted.
  • Shared match membership and technical evidence expire after 14 days. Operational game-server logs are configured for 14 days.
  • Resolved support emails are deleted after 30 days, except material still needed for an unresolved request or legal obligation.
  • A deletion completion receipt expires after seven days. Minimal enrollment and deletion markers currently have no automatic expiry. They prevent replay of old enrollment requests and let the app confirm that a deletion completed. These markers do not retain your player name, gameplay history or account secret. We will review their retention before public release.

Expiration does not mean immediate physical removal from every storage layer. Recovery backups can retain data after removal from active storage: automatic point-in-time recovery for the account and career databases uses a window of up to 35 days, and the reports database uses a one-day window. Separately created release and recovery backups can be retained longer and currently have no automatic expiry. They are restricted to recovery and verification. Restored data must have completed deletion requests reapplied before it is returned to normal service.

Account deletion and privacy requests

In the app, open Home → settings wheel → DELETE ACCOUNT and follow the confirmation. The server closes account access and removes account-owned profile records, save history and reports you submitted. The account-deletion process also removes account-owned career totals, word history and update records, and redacts that account’s personal portions of shared career records. It does not erase other participants’ records. Deletion is processed asynchronously and can pause for repair if unsupported data is encountered. The app clears associated local account and reporting state. Uninstalling the app alone does not request server account deletion.

Deletion retains the minimal acceptance evidence described above. It does not instantly remove shared match evidence, another player's report referring to you, recovery backups or the minimal markers described above. Shared evidence and report bodies remain subject to their expiry periods. Contact us if you need help with information in another player's report.

For account-access help or to request access, correction or deletion of your information, email info+support@astracodeworks.com. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you without asking for passwords or sign-in secrets. Available rights and any exceptions depend on your location and applicable law.

Adult beta

This beta is for adults aged 18 and older. We are not inviting children to this beta. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address it. Younger-player access will require a separate design before public release.

Changes and contact

We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change, and provide additional notice where required. Questions about this policy can be sent to Astra Codeworks LLC at info+support@astracodeworks.com.
